Name: Ultra Magnus
Afilliation: Autobot
Function: Administrative Secretary (minding Optimus' business), Sub-Commander
Mun: MimiSard
Journal: City Commander
Canon:
Ultra Magnus feels he is a soldier and nothing more. He very much prefers taking orders to giving them, and even avoids opportunities for higher responsibility. But when he is forced into those opportunities, he betrays his real talent for the job. He's strong, resolute, dependable, selfless, and courageous. Sadly, Ultra Magnus is the only Autobot who doesn't realize this.
Believing he is nothing but a soldier, Ultra Magnus is perfectly willing to sacrifice himself for the greater good if need be. He knows he's more powerful than the average Autobot, and will throw himself at larger threats accordingly. There is a special enmity between him and Galvatron for this reason, for Galvatron may be the most deadly foe of all. (Also, Galvatron, given his mental state, probably doesn't approve of people he's had blown up getting back up afterward. This can be seen as a sore point for Magnus, too.)
He is possibly Optimus Prime's brother.

Cracktrans:
Ultra Magnus started life as a humble dock worker by the name of Dion. He was a mass-produced worker-bot and when he found out what family was, he really fragging wished he had one. Really. His only comfort was that his first mentor directed him to the Church of Primus. Later he became best friends with Orion Pax and was quietly amused by Orion's romantic travails with Ariel.
But life decided to get in the way and Dion got rebuilt as Ultra Magnus, around the same time as Orion became Optimus Prime. The two of them now consider each other as brothers, and Trion their adopted creator, so now Magnus had family. Magnus also never really liked Megatron much.
Optimus disappeared offworld making Ultra Magnus realise he hates doing Optimus' job for him (though he's fond of paperwork and acted as the Administrative Secretary of the Prime's Office). Then Optimus came back emo, and war happened. Magnus gave Optimus an "I told you so!". Ultra Magnus became a soldier and really like it, became Optimus' sub-commander and didn't mind it too much, even if it was suspiciously close to Optimus' job. He was off-world when the Allspark got launched and stayed off-world when he heard everyone was trying to find it before Megatron did.
He's met Glit before, but as it was on a battlefield and he was rather injured, he didn't really get the cassette medic's name - just hazily boggled at a 'Con medic fixing him up.
Magnus also knows Metroplex. The city-mech was sent into a campaign Magnus was commanding, partly as really heavy-duty backup, partly as replacement for the previous base, which got bombed to slag by the Decepticons (there's advantages to having a base who can move himself). Magnus has quite a few fond memories of that campaign due to getting to know Metroplex there.
He's been in space a long time and kinda misses his family, so coming to Earth is a happy thing because he's got Optimus again, and Alpha Trion.
Magnus has taken over doing most of the base's paperwork. This mainly means all of Optimus' paperwork, though Starscream tries to dump his on Magnus as well - when he can avoid being noticed doing so by Megatron. Magnus doesn't mind, he likes paperwork.
Latest news: Magnus has adopted Noki, the phonebot created by Sector Seven Agent Simmons, and killed soon after (the exact circumstances of how Noki was brought back to life is not known to Magnus as the files he has read on Noki have virtually no information between Simmons killing him and his turning up on the Cybertronian base - and falling in someone's energon).
Magnus also underwent a project to convert one of the unused storage holds into a chapel. Whether anyone will ever visit it besides him is another thing, especial with the Cosmic Rust outbreak getting into the base walls.
Magnus became practically dizzy with glee at Metroplex's arrival, having worked with the megabot, and his drones during the war. This crush has settled down to friendship again.
Magnus has also, recently, made friends with Sunstorm, while lending the once-insane Seeker a sympathetic ear over his troubles with Blaster, and subsequent breaking of their bonding.
Due to stress, and Sunstorm deciding to take some time away, Magnus has decided to do similar - taking a nice long driving tour of the North Amercian continent... possibly the South American continent too, if he feels like it. Unfortunately, Noki was not so interested in joining him on this trip, stubbornly hiding in Magnus's office, so Magnus left a supply of energon chips and some toys and computer access for him. Magnus hopes he will take care of himself, considering he did so for quite a few months before Magnus adopted him.
Relationships:
Mostly Magnus is a quiet bot who is not quite sure how to get on with people, though he does his best to be polite and friendly. He is almost ridiculously devoted to those he's accepted as family - specifically Alpha Trion, Optimus Prime and now Noki. He has become aware that the number of mechs who could count as "family" is now a lot larger, but has not really looked into just who that includes. He does not know what to think of having Megatron as a brother-in-law, considering his past distaste for the Lord Protector, but is icily polite when he has to have anything to do with him that cannot go through Optimus.
When Metroplex arrived on Earth, Magnus developed a crush on the city-mech, and by extention his drones as well, but it only lasted a short while before it settled back into a friendly working relationship.
Magnus started a friendship with Sunstorm while helping the Seeker cope with the loss of Blaster. Sunstorm has since taken off for places unknown and Magnus remembers him with friendly fondness.
Magnus has a short list of mechs he will never ever interface with:
Optimus - Optimus is his brother you pervs! (Never mind what may be buried in his porn collection! Or what the mun might wish.)
Megatron - because that's Optimus' bonded and Magnus never really liked him to start with anyway.
Bonecrusher - because in the infamous incident surrounding a certain photo right after Magnus arrived on Earth, Bonecrusher was the first to start talking about blackmail and it all went downhill from there.
Convoy - Because should he ever meet Convoy IC he will be instantly struck by how creepily similar to Optimus Convoy looks and be very creeped out.
Cosmos - Well, actually, no, but this caused a long period of being phobic about Cosmos and will probably still remain a bit of a sticking point.
Galvatron - Given that he already utterly refuses to consider Megatron, do you really think he'd ever consider he's brother-in-law's crazy twin? If so, Magnus can't deal with you!
Nemesis - Kindly see everything said on Convoy and Galvatron and STFU.
